Canonteign House is a 17th century privately owned property steeped in the most fascinating history spanning nine hundred years, and once home to Lord Exmouth. Domesday Book records show that the manor belonged to the canons of St Mary du Val in Normandy; 150 years later it was conveyed to the Priory of Merton in Surrey, founded by Henry 1st. Canonteign derives its name from the Black Canons and its situation, close to the River Teign. Through the dedication of the current owner, Canonteign House and Estate is being brought back to its’ former glory and much more. Restoration work in the house has been ongoing for a number of years.

In the 1980’s Canonteign House suffered a severe fire and many of the mouldings had to be replaced and Abby Mouldings were commissioned to restore original features. The moulding in the study was not in keeping with the period, therefore we manufactured and fitted new cornice which is in keeping with the period of the house.
