We are proud to have been part of the ongoing restoration projects within this beautiful 17th century property, Canonteign House, following a devastating fire in the 1980’s which resulted in extensive damage and many of the original features requiring repair and replacement.

We were commissioned to restore original features as well as other projects such as replacing the mouldings in the study, which were not in keeping with the period. We manufactured and fitted new cornice which represented the period of the house.

Canonteign House is steeped in the most fascinating history spanning nine hundred years, and once home to Lord Exmouth. Domesday Book records show that the manor belonged to the canons of St Mary du Val in Normandy; 150 years later it was conveyed to the Priory of Merton in Surrey, founded by Henry 1st.

This stunning property derives its name from the Black Canons and its situation, close to the river Teign.

Canonteign House and Estate is being slowly brought back to its’ former glory through the dedication of the current owner, and restoration work in the house has been ongoing for many years.

Below are just a small portion of some of the works we have been a part of over the years, including replicating and replacing original cornice and mouldings, manufacturing and replacing cornice that was not in keeping with the properties. Recently we returned to install some plaster cornice to the new kitchen extension.

A major part of heritage building renovation is the restoration and recreation of these original mouldings. Old cornice and coving can be repaired and replicated by creating a template for a mould from the original plaster mouldings and making new matching pieces.

Our skilled master craftsmen use traditional methods, techniques and products to create plaster products that replicate the look and authenticity of original mouldings.
