Abby Mouldings specialise in repairing original ornamental plaster mouldings by taking moulds of original cornice, ceiling centres and other plaster mouldings, and recreating damaged or missing pieces, to bring the original mouldings back to their former glory.
Cornice and ceiling centres can become damaged over time by mould, water, excessive painting and just old age. Many of our restoration project on period properties and listed buildings require us to carry out repair work to very old plaster mouldings.
For this project, Abby Mouldings we commissioned to carry out works to ornamental plaster mouldings at a property in Teignmouth.
We were tasked by the customer to repair old and damaged ceiling centres and cornice, plus to re plaster over old ceiling to make it safe.
The project required us to take apart the old cornice and take moulds of the decorative parts to create moulds, enabling us to make new sections to repair and match with the old cornice. We then took moulds of the ceilings centres ornate pieces so we could replicate these and match them in with the original pieces.
Before installing the cornice and ceiling centres, we needed to carry out repairs to old ceilings, which required plaster boarding over old ceilings to make safe, then plastering with a skim coat.
